April 2023 Construction starting - Little Karaka Bay to Weka Bay
Construction work on the section between Little Karaka and Weka bays will get under way from 11 April. Our contractor Downer will start at Weka Bay to build the new walking and biking paths, where the previously completed paths end. They will work back towards Little Karaka Bay.

Pūroro Āmua, the Council's Planning and Environment Committee, approved the concept design for the section between Cobham Drive and Greta Point with some changes, and agreed the project should proceed. Some changes to the concept design were made following suggestions and concerns raised during consultation. More information on the decision is available in:

6 April 2021: Work in Weka Bay getting under way More Less
Construction work on the new walking and bike paths will extend around the corner into Weka Bay from this week.
The contractors have some finishing work still to do in Kio Bay so there will be construction activity continuing there too. Weather permitting, the bike path through Kio Bay is expected to be asphalted in mid-April. A new pedestrian crossing will be installed in Kio Bay once the lights, which are on order, arrive. Unfortunately, there are still some Covid-19-related supply chain issues and delays. We hope this work will happen in June but can't confirm that yet.
The work in Weka Bay will extend part way around the bay. As has happened in other areas, the contractors will first mill and remove the existing surfacing along the edge of the road and footpath edge and then lay the new kerbline. They will then lay the new concrete footpath and develop the new seaward side bus stop, which will be slightly south of the existing bus stop.
The parking on the seaward side opposite numbers 140 to 170 Evans Bay Parade will be cordoned off from Friday 9 April so this can happen.
There will be construction fences, diggers, and other heavy vehicles to accommodate – and we need to prioritise people on foot and bikes, and through traffic.
If you have a vehicle parked here, please shift it by Friday. If it still parked here on 9 April, the contractors will need to get it moved to a safer spot. Our Contact Centre staff will be able to tell you where it has been moved to. They are available 24/7 on 04 499 4444 and will just need your registration number.
